Hooper & Co. (Coachbuilders) Ltd., Kimberley Road, London NW6, England
Early in the 1970s the Australian born Colin Hyams, a car fanatic and Formula 5000 and sports car racing driver, arrived in the U.K. Under his leadership and with a cash injection by Canadian entrepreneur John Dick, Hooper & Co. (Coachbuilders) Ltd. was resurrected and several existing companies involved in coachbuilding and the maintenance and sale of classic cars joined the fold. Among these were Jack Alpe, a major player in pre-owned Bentley and Rolls-Royce cars and Crailville run by David Brimson - producers of very fine replica bodies from a small but busy works alongside the Grand Union Canal near London Airport. As Hooper-Crailville, they were soon turning out a 2-door version of the Bentley Turbo R in series and providing major modifications to new Corniches and Camargues to customer's individual requirements. In 1987, Hooper's completely coachbuilt Empress II 2-door saloon with Turbo R running gear and on that model's floor pan was revealed at the Geneva show and despite a hefty price tag of 275,000, a few were sold to well-healed Bentley enthusiasts. Then followed the Hooper Emperor limousine - a stretched version of the Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit.
For whatever reason, the partnerships were not long lasting and Crailville split from the organisation and relocated to Kent.
