Characteristics and peculiarities |
Backgrounds of this model
- The Bentley Turbo R is the successor of the Bentley Mulsanne Turbo. The Turbo R had to enhance the success of the Bentley revival but with a better handling (R means Roadholding).
- The Mulsanne Turbo was sold until the end of 1985 whilst the Turbo R already was manufactured from March 1985. In a part of 1985 both models were manufactured at the same time.
- Until mid 1988 (model year 1989) the Bentley Turbo R has not been sold in the US, Canada, Japan and Australia due to their emission control regulations.
Original characteristics
- The Bentley Turbo R has basically the same engine and gear box as the Mulsanne Turbo: a 6750 cc V8 engine with a three speed automatic gear box (GM400) and carburetters. The maximum power with turbo is 298 bhp at 4000 rpm.
- The car has a body-coloured radiator shell with vanes.
- The Bentley Turbo R is the first model with cast aluminium alloy wheels. Special centre caps.
- Pirelli 275/55VR15 P7 tyres.
- The same suspension as the Mulsanne Turbo, but the anti-roll bar stiffened by 100% at the front and 60% at the rear, the dampers slightly stiffened, the rear subframe anchored laterally and the steering slightly heavier.
- Turbo R badges.
- Restyled facia with centre console, leather clad steering and rev counter.
