Characteristics and peculiarities |
Backgrounds of this model
- The Rolls-Royce Corniche is the first Rolls-Royce convertible after the production of the Rolls-Royce Corniche IV was terminated at the end of model year 1995.
- Sometimes the model is called "Rolls-Royce Corniche V", refering to the fifth generation of the Corniche, but that name is not officially granted by the factory.
- The Rolls-Royce Corniche's body was set onto the platform used for the similarly-styled Bentley Azure, making it the first and last Rolls-Royce descended from a Bentley rather than the other way around.
- The Rolls-Royce Corniche has no predecessor or successor but is a model besides already existing models.
- The Corniche was the only new Rolls-Royce developed under Volkswagen's ownership, before the marque was passed to BMW in 2003. All Corniches were completely hand-built. The car was considered a slightly softer, and even more exclusive, version of the Bentley Azure.
General characteristics
- The Corniche was powered by a 6750 cc V8 with a low-pressure turbo (LPT), providing 325 bhp of power and 738 Nm of torque.

Production and chassis numbers |
Identification of the model in the chassis number
The chassis number of a Corniche has:
- the letter A on the third position
- the letter K on the fifth position
- a number between 68001 and 68621, or a number between 02000 and 02033 or number 02037.
Further details about the production and the chassis numbers
- The chassis numbers in the years 1980 up to and including 1989 are assigned in batches. Batches exist for the standard saloon models (Silver Spirit, Mulsanne), the long wheelbase models (Silver Spur, Bentley LWB), the turbo models (Mulsanne Turbo, Turbo R), the Bentley Eight, the convertibles (Corniche, Continental), the Camargues and the Phantoms VI.
- In 1999, 2000 and 2001 this model has a series of numbers that was not shared with other models.
- In 2002 the range of numbers is shared with the Corniche Last of Line.
Series of numbers and unused numbers
- No number was assigned to a Corniche between 68174 (end of model year 2000) and 68500 (start of model year 2001) and between 68622 (end of model year 2001) and 02000 (start of model year 2002). Between 68622 and 02000 numbers are assigned to other models.
- Model year 2002 ended for the Corniche on number 02033. After that number only number 02037 belongs to a Corniche.
